Food is one of the most important parts of any trip. It doesn't matter where you go, there is going to be food unique to
that area. It could be a certain place that is unlike any other, such as a doughnut shop that sells foot long doughnuts.
It could be a type of food that is a special to that area, such as a Philly Cheese Steak. Most of these places are off the beaten path and while well-known to the locals, they are generally missed by the tourist population.
Tourists tend to stick with the big box stores that may be located in or near the hotel and don't venture far off from the main purpose of the trips, such as an amusement park or museum. For the foodies out there, there are several books available by chefs, like Anthony Bourdain, that talk about the foods from a special area.
It could be a mention in a chapter about the best burger joints in the country or part of a whole section devoted to a city, like Chicago or Portland. This is especially true when you go international and want to try some of the native cuisine. While everyone knows about fish and chips in England, what kind of food do you eat in Nigeria or South Africa.
There are many travel books devoted to food and cuisine that are available at bookstores and Amazon.com. You might even want to make a cross country road trip devoted to eating at specific places in these books. It wouldn't be the first time.
